Race The Fox
August 17, 2024
Canoe, Kayak, Stand Up Paddle Board, Surf Ski, Out Rigger Canoe Race and Fun Paddle
Come join us for a fun day of paddle sports racing on the Fox River from Berlin, Wisconsin to the finish line in Omro, Wisconsin.
Fox Valley Performance Paddlers are working together with the Fox River Runners and Berlin Boat Club to host a Canoe, Kayak, SUP, Surf Ski Race. This will be the same day as the Fox River Runners hold their Celebrate the Fox Corn Roast. This will be one of the few times you race North and paddle downstream at the same time and the river is under stern rudder friendly. All human power single or double paddle crafts are welcome. Power boats use this stretch of river so there's a deep channel and should be a fast course. We are providing a shuttle service before the race so racers can leave their vehicles at the finish.
So you may ask "What's in it for me?" or "what do the funds go towards?"
You will get to paddle a scenic stretch of the Fox River supported by 100% volunteers, a shuttle to get you back to the start line before the race begins, good fun competition, snacks with post race results, awards, a cool t-shirt, post party with food, drink and live bands. Hard dedicated effort with continuous improvement over the years and or helping the event succeed over the years will be rewarded! We strive to make this a event full of learning and sharing opportunities.
The more funds we generate the more youth we will be able to introduce to competitive paddling with hopes to inspire future Olympic hopefuls and future fitness paddling adults with a love for Americas waterways. One of our goals is to provide access to boats, free entry and practice time to a number of youth in the Fox Valley area each year.
Waterway improvements, including access points improvements and Eureka Lock maintenance.
The Course
There are 2 course lengths: the long course is approximately 17 miles, while the short course is approximately 8.5 miles.
The 17 mile course will Lock thru the Eureka Dam Lock for all classes. Timing splits will be taken when you reach the lock, and again when you leave the lock. We will lock thru small groups of paddlers and anticipate the time it will take to be around 15 minutes each lock thru.
The 8.5 mile course will start below the Eureka Lock Dam using the Eureka Dam Campsites Campground private Boat Ramp.
Finish Lines for both course lengths are the same and end at Fred Miller Park in Omro, WI. The long course (17 mile) will start at 10:00 am and the short course (8.5 mile) to be at 10:45 am.
Race the Fox and Fox Valley Performance Paddlers are 100% volunteer supported.
Special thanks to the Volunteers, Fox River Runners, Berlin Boat Club, Eureka Dam Campsites, City of Berlin, City of Omro, and everyone else who makes this event possible.
